Finalists in this year’s Ahuwhenua Trophy awards will be on tenterhooks today.
This evening will see the announcement of the winners of the 2013 Ahuwhenua Young Māori Sheep and Beef Farmer of the Year award and the prestigious Ahuwhenua Trophy BNZ Māori Excellence in Farming Award at a dinner in Taradale.
In contention for the first award are two finalists, AgITO has announced. They are Te Moana (Tem) Sidney, a junior shepherd from Mount Herbert Station, Waipukurau and Jordan Smith, a shepherd general at Kearins Bros Limited, Te Kuiti.
This is the first competition for young Māori sheep and beef farmers. Last year was the first for young Māori dairy farmers.
The Ahuwhenua Trophy BNZ Māori Excellence in Farming Award, is the premier award for Māori in agriculture and is marking its 80th anniversary this year.
The finalists in the 2013 sheep and beef competition are:
- Te Uranga B2 Incorporation – Upoko B2
- Te Awahohonu Forest Trust – Tarawera Station
- Te Hape B Trust – Te Hape Station
