Live-streamed Deer Industry Conference focused on next generation

Downlands Deer. The deer industry’s annual conference running from 20 to 22 May in Methven is to be live-streamed online for the first time ever.

“Farming deer is an innovative business and as part of that we need to keep up with changes in communications technology,” says Deer Industry New Zealand (DINZ) producer manager Tony Pearse.

“Live-streaming enables farmers and others who can’t get to the conference to get the speakers’ messages first-hand. It helps make our traditional events relevant to audiences who are comfortable with new media.”

Rural TV, an on-line TV channel, will provide the live-stream on its website www.ruraltv.co.nz.

Coverage will also include interviews of conference speakers by presenter Tony Glynn.   The 2014 Deer Industry Conference, which is being held from 20-22 May in Methven has a theme of ‘Grass Roots – Green Shoots‘. It aims to stimulate ‘green shoots’ among the next generation of deer farmers by transferring knowledge of international markets and leading edge science to a grass roots audience.

“We are really excited to deliver the fantastic conference agenda to those who can’t attend,” says Sarah Perriam, co-founder of RuralTV.co.nz

“Anyone who is interested will visit the website to see and hear the speakers deliver their presentations. Highlights include food marketing expert, Professor David Hughes of the Imperial College of London and Professor Yang, chair of the Chinese Deer Farmers Association.

“Livestreaming is the way of the future,” says Perriam. She says it will appeal to young farmers with children, staff who are running the farm while the owners or the managers are attending the conference, as well as sponsors’ staff, who cannot attend.

The conference has an official Twitter account @DeerNZ14 and hashtag #dinzconf14 for people to follow the live updates from the conference on social media.
