Meat industry journalism awards

The meat industry was among the winners in this year’s Guild of Agricultural Journalists & Communicators Awards, held in Wellington last Friday.

Congratulations to Country Wide’s Terry Brosnahan and NZ Farmers Weekly editor Rebecca Harper for their respective scoops of the Alliance Group Ltd Red Meat Industry Journalism Award and Beef + Lamb NZ News Award.

Brosnahan’s win was thanks to a series of articles on the developing market for New Zealand’s red meat in China, while Harper entered two articles focusing on the beef and sheep industry.

The top award of the night, the TBfree NZ Rongo Award which recognises excellence in agricultural journalism, went to Susan Murray of Radio New Zealand’s Country Life programme. Murray had entered two programmes: one covering a Māori Trust Farm that was a finalist in this year’s Ahuwhenua Māori Business Farm of the Year; the other the reaction to the Enivronment Court ruling to give the Manawatu Whanganui Regional Council the right to control the impact farming can have on the region’s waterways.

Nine other awards honoured other journalists. Well done all of the winners.
