New butchery skills section at HOFEX 2015

Meat@HOFEXA new butchery skills hall has been added to the line-up for the biennial trade show Hofex 2015, which will take place in Hong Kong from 6-9 May 2015.

Organisers say the new featured zone is to cater for the surging demand of meat in Asia, “bringing buyers a one-of-a-kind sourcing platform that they have never experienced before.”

Hall 5E will be decorated as an abattoir and will house over 80 international meat suppliers to “steal attention” from the expected 38,000 regional buyers.

A new Butchery Skills Challenge has been added to the internationally renowned Hong Kong International Culinary Classic, endorsed by the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS). Besides practicality, contestants will be demonstrating their creativity, innovation, boning and value-adding with good hygienic practices, organisers say.

“The brand new butchery skills sector will add another dimension, especially for New Zealand and Australian meat exporters who will want to show what can be done with their meat,” says John Gore of Eurofair Limited, who is organising a New Zealand group stand in the Food & Beverage sector of the trade fair.

Together with the other 12 exhibition halls, HOFEX 2015 promises to be the biggest rendition of the show in history with an expected total 62,000 square metre of exhibition space and 2,100 exhibiting companies.

Total beef imports into Hong Kong in 2013 were 59.7 percent over the previous year to 722,211 tonnes.
