Step out of your ag innovation silo to broaden design thinking

With the red meat sector moving quickly to embrace digital technology in almost everything we do, it’s time for those involved in innovation to step out of their siloes to save time – and probably money – by building relevant networks with others also engaged in design thinking.

We hear plans are moving on quickly and seats are filling for the first ever Ag Innovations Workshop. There are some exciting speakers on the programme, including:

  • Innovation expert and communication specialist Jeremy Suisted will bring his personal expertise to facilitate the sessions. At his own company, Creativate, he is skilled at guiding the wide-range of clients, including Ballance Agri-Nutrients, Fisher & Paykel, Lincoln University and Tatua, to really understand their innovation needs, guiding them through the process and helping transform an organisation’s innovation culture.
  • Keynote speaker Jenene Crossan will draw on her 21 years of digital entrepreneurial experience in setting up an award-winning digital magazine www.nzgirl.co.nz, before starting her current role as founder and chief executive of Flossie, a new app designed to help women book beauty and hair appointments.
  • David Downs is a general manager at New Zealand Trade & Enterprise, alongside being an ex-comedian, TV and radio actor and the author of No.8 Rewired and No.8 Recharged.
  • Johnathon Meichtry, Amazon Web Service (AWS)’s principal solutions architect, who has over 25 years technology industry experience across more than 40 countries.

The two-day workshop is hosted by Rezare Systems and Fieldays, along with partners AWS and support from AGMARDT. The organisers say both start-ups with early-stage ideas for services and products and traditional agritech companies experimenting with new ideas would benefit from know-how in modern product design and validation approaches and techniques to build engagement and empathy with farmers and end-users.

At the workshop you’ll get support and skills to validate your ideas and build business cases, be able to learn methods and tools to prototype and validate ideas for desirability, feasibility and financial viability, along with building a network with other product managers, share stories and find where to get assistance. Numbers are capped to ensure an intimate, hands-on and meaningful experience for participants. With a mix of small scale start-ups and large agricultural businesses and organisations from New Zealand and Australia already signed up, there are still a few spaces left!!
